ASD and Me

Writer: Du Elite MarketingDu Elite Marketing

I will get right to it... it‘s Autism Awareness month and to honor my son I will share a bit of his and my story.

When my son was 4 month old I sensed something was off. By the time my son was 6 months old I started to notice he wouldn’t keep eye contact, wouldn’t respond properly when I called his name out, and preferred to be alone. By the time he was eight months the behaviors of lining up toys and banging his head or hands began. Now as anyone one that’s been down this road, you know that no one will really listen to your concerns of development delays until 2-3 years old. I asked every one to hear me out, to look at what I am looking at. No one listened, my concerns were met with “boys will be boys”, “he is perfectly fine, you’re worrying for no reason”, etc. It wasn’t until my son was 6 years old that I was finally heard by Dr. Henry Damus. He heard me and said he would test him. It took two months to go through the whole testing process and receiving a diagnosis. When I received those 20 something pages of evaluation and diagnosis I almost cried. I finally had proof in my hand ghat I was right all along. With this I and an amazing friend that has helped me find the way to get this far I have been able to get my son the therapies & tools he needs to succeed.

I share this with you all because of anyone is out there that needs help.... Well, I need you to know you are not alone.

Also, parents out there know you are your children’s voice and advocate. If you see something that’s not right, missing or anything that sparks concern voice your thoughts and feelings. Do not stop fighting for your children because people don’t listen.

It took me 6 long years but finally someone listened. It took 6 long years but finally I was able to get my son what he needed. Unfortunately, mental health in this country is so behind but there are great doctors out there and I for one am willing to help you find one. If anyone out there reads our story band needs help please reach out.

Please know that’s Autism is NOT a disability but a super power. My son is the smartest, kindest, so caring and sweet person I know. I have learned to be a better person and mother because he is so amazing. I love that I am a part of his puzzle and his world.

Please join me and all the parents like me and be a part of our puzzle and not the missing piece. Our babies need friends and they love to have friends, please teach your children to be kind, loving, and accepting as our babies are.

Thank you for reading and spending a little time getting to know our world.

have a wonderful weekend and week.
